A group of Metropolitan Transportation Commission members and staff are in Washington this week to advocate for funding through the 2021 Bipartisan Infrastructure Law to advance the ambitious goals set forth in Plan Bay Area 2050, the long-range roadmap for transportation, housing, economic vitality and environmental health adopted jointly in October 2021 by MTC and ABAG.

A $4.5 billion set-aside to fund bridge repair projects across California will enable Bay Area cities and counties to compete for funds to upgrade bridges along local streets and roads as part of a new infrastructure bill.

Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC) Chair Alfredo Pedroza and Association of Bay Area Governments (ABAG) Executive Board President Jesse Arreguín are lauding Congress for its passage Friday of the nearly $1 trillion Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, noting that the funding package will help implement many of the 35 strategies included in Plan Bay Area 2050, the long-term regional plan for transportation, housing, the environment and the economy adopted last month by both agencies.

Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC) Chair Scott Haggerty today commended the U.S. House of Representative’s infrastructure bill — the $1.5 trillion “Moving Forward Act” (H.R. 2) — which is on the House floor for consideration this week, with voting expected as early as today or Thursday.
