Raising gas taxes for transportation improvements is not political problem, as long as voters know cash will go to fix roads and bridges, said the democrat expected to head the key House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee.

Oregon Democrat Rep. Peter DeFazio told MarketWatch that this month’s midterm elections showed raising gasoline taxes isn’t a political third rail. He even thinks it's an issue the dems can work on with President Donald Trump.

This month Californians rejected the rollback of a gas tax increase, which came to voters as Proposition 6.
