On Thursday, Feb. 20, Bay Area transit agencies and the Metropolitan Transportation Commission will debut test transit maps and signs by hosting a press event and tour showcasing the new maps and signs at the Santa Rosa.
- When: Thursday, Feb. 20, 2025
- Time: 12 p.m.
- Where: Comstock Mall, Second Street, Santa Rosa
(across from the Santa Rosa Downtown Transit Mall)
The public is invited to the event, which will begin with a press conference at Comstock Mall (across from the Transit Mall) followed by a guided walking/rolling tour of the new signage and maps from the Transit Mall to the downtown Santa Rosa SMART station.
Transit to the event: Santa Rosa City Bus, Sonoma County Transit and Golden Gate Transit all offer service to the Transit Mall. SMART riders can exit at the Santa Rosa Downtown station and make the 15-minute walk or roll to the Transit Mall.
The current phase of work involves the installation of several "test" prototype signs and other communication materials at two transit stations that serve multiple transit agencies: the Santa Rosa Downtown Transit Mall/Downtown Santa Rosa SMART station and El Cerrito del Norte BART station.
Transit riders will be able to engage with the test materials during their journeys and share with MTC their ideas about how to make new signs and maps work better for them. This public feedback will help MTC and Bay Area transit agencies improve designs to make traveling by transit more intuitive and convenient.
The Regional Mapping & Wayfinding Project, a partnership between the Metropolitan Transportation Commission and Bay Area transit agencies, will redesign and harmonize maps and signage across all nine Bay Area counties to help people navigate transit more easily.
