The Conference of Minority Transportation Officials (COMTO) Northern California Chapter named the Metropolitan Transportation Commission its 2025 Public Agency of the Year at an event earlier this month, recognizing MTC for its ongoing advocacy, commitment to the transportation industry, and deep investment in advancing opportunities across the region.
The Public Agency of the Year award recognizes a public agency that, through its policy, guidelines, and actions has consistently provided exemplary support to COMTO “above and beyond” by contributing to and espousing the mission and goals of the organization both nationally and through its local chapter. The recipient of this award has demonstrated its efforts in promoting economic development and support of small and emerging businesses, setting benchmarks for leadership – especially during exciting and challenging times; and promoting transportation initiatives.
For more than a decade, MTC has been a steadfast partner to COMTO NorCal, providing consistent and invaluable support through sponsorships, in-kind contributions such as event space and staff participation, and by encouraging its employees to serve as COMTO members and leaders.
MTC staff have strengthened the chapter through service in numerous leadership capacities — including Fundraising Chair, Events & Programming Chair, and Co-Chair, Treasurer, and President. The enduring partnership continues to amplify COMTO's shared mission to ensure that transportation serves all people.
Founded in 1971, COMTO is a national organization that empowers all lived experience and contracting opportunities in the multi-modal, multi-billion-dollar transportation industry. Its mission is to connect untapped talent to opportunities through leadership training, professional development, scholarship and internship funding, political advocacy, partnership building and networking opportunities.
COMTO's Northern California Chapter was founded in 1985, and we support nearly 4,000 professionals from transportation agencies, corporations, academic institutions, industry non-profits, and small businesses within the region.
