Caltrans continues to perform essential steel weld inspection project weld inspections and repairs on the Carquinez Bridge.
The work is critical to maintaining the ongoing structural integrity of the bridge.
Carquinez Bridge closures are expected to continue through March. Work is expected to occur eastbound:
- Monday–Thursday: 3 a.m. to 1 p.m.
- Friday (Thursday Night to Friday Morning): 11 p.m. to 7 a.m.
- Saturday: (Friday Night to Saturday Morning): 11 p.m. to 8 a.m.
All work is weather dependent and subject to change.
Drivers may experience minor delays and are advised to plan ahead and allow extra time. Be work zone alert, drive with caution through the work zone.
Replaced with a suspension Bridge in 2003, the Carquinez Bridge carries vehicles, bikes and pedestrians westbound across the Carquinez Strait. (The eastbound span carries vehicles only.)
The Carquinez Bridge is actually two bridges. Located near Vallejo, on Interstate 80 between Contra Costa and Solano counties, the original crossing opened in 1927. To accommodate the ever-increasing traffic flow on I-80, in 1958 Caltrans constructed a parallel bridge to function as the eastbound span.
