'The scooter scourge' : Love 'em or hate 'em, they are here to stay

Scooters are here to stay as a mode of transportation in the urban landscape, but they have raised a myriad of  issues, highlighted in a story dubbed "The scooter scourge."

An article in The Week provides some history on how the scooter movement started in Santa Monica and soon proliferated to a point where multiple companies are investing in the technology.

It also touches on a surge of injuries involving the devices and cities' scrambling to regulate the scooters. A cottage industry involving charging up the scooters has also sprung up.

While the industry is in its infancy, it's likely here to stay and is popular way for young urban professionals to get around the big city.
