With the Sonoma-Marin Area Rail Transit trains now connecting to Golden Gate Ferries in Larkspur, the two transportation agencies are seeking to attract more off-peak riders.
SMART trains go as far north Santa Rosa, while Golden Gate Ferries offer rides to and from San Francisco.
The Sail & Rail offer allows riders to take a ferry and then train at a discount during certain hours during the week and all day on weekends. It's available on the SMART mobile app.
The Weekender special pass is available on weekends through February. It allows for a free train ride when getting off a ferry, or a free ferry ride when departing a train in Larkspur. Talk to ferry terminal staff about obtaining the pass.
MTC has provided financial support for SMART. SMART is also working on extending farther north to Windsor in Sonoma County by the end of 2021.
