BART is once again accepting deliveries of new Fleet of the Future rail cars, the agency announced Wednesday.

BART stopped accepting delivery of new cars on Jan. 8, 2021, to allow the manufacturer the time to take steps to improve the cars’ reliability and availability, and to alleviate rail car storage constraints at BART’s maintenance yards.

During the pause in deliveries, BART and the manufacturer made necessary upgrades and modifications. These changes, along with several software improvements, have greatly improved the overall performance of the new cars, the agency said.

As of Wednesday, BART has received 308 new cars, 293 have been certified for service and 219 are currently in service. BART is running 23 new trains. During the peak commute, BART has 56 total trains in service.

MTC and BART are transportation partners.
