Groups of two or more making their way to Oakland or San Francisco International Airports via BART can sign up for a new app and get deep discounts on their trips, the agency has announced.

It's the first time BART is offering mobile tickets through an app. The launch is designed to be a one-year test of mobile ticketing at the transit agency.

When a group of two or more use the app, a discount of 25 percent is given for the airport trips. App users show their ticket to a station agent when enterering and exiting the BART station.

BART delivers travelers to the doorsteps of both airports, which in turn lessens traffic at the sites and nearby roads.

MTC contributed $26.5 million to the BART extension to SFO, which opened in 2003. More recently, MTC gave $179 million to the BART extension to Oakland International, which opened in 2014.
