A mile-long segment of Sonoma-Marin Area Rail Transit's pathway from McInnis Parkway to Smith Ranch Road opened in Marin County last weekend.

The SMART pathway at McInnis Parkway is an important milestone in enhancing regional connectivity and environmental stewardship. Funding for the pathway segment came from MTC.
The new pathway segment offers a safer, more direct route, connecting key regional facilities such as the Marin County Fairgrounds, Marin Civic Center and McInnis Park.

SMART’s pathway in Marin carries the San Francisco Bay Trail designation. Completion of the pathway supports MTC’s Bay Trail plans in Marin.
This pathway project underscores SMART's and MTC's commitments to sustainable and green transportation solutions.
The SMART Pathway/Great Redwood Trail strengthens community bonds, provides access to outdoor activities, fosters social connections, and contributes to a more environmentally responsible North Bay.
The San Francisco Bay Trail welcomes hikers, joggers, bicyclists, skaters and wheelchair users to more than 350 miles of trails that circle the bay. The goal is to have 500 miles through 47 cities, across seven toll bridges, along shorelines and through 130 parks, among other locations.
Other McInnis pathway partners include: the City of San Rafael, Federal Transit Administration, Transportation Authority of Marin, Caltrans, The Great Redwood Trail, Marin County Parks and the Marin County Bicycle Coalition.
