Every April, San Francisco brings together hundreds of organizations to host over one hundred climate action and environment-focused events and learning sessions that draw more than 7,000 attendees for San Francisco Climate Week. For the first time, two agencies hosted by the Metropolitan Transportation Commission, the San Francisco Estuary Partnership (Estuary Partnership) and the Bay Area Regional Collaborative (BARC), will join this remarkable event.
On Earth Day the Estuary Partnership and BARC, in partnership with the KneeDeep Times, Bay Conservation & Development Commission, Bay Area Regional Collaborative and Bay Area Air Quality Management District will hold a series of four talks. These talks will discuss green banks and the impact of climate finance products; nature-based solutions as intersectional methods to connect community and climate adaptation; the possibility of using AI to adapt to climate change; and a panel discussion with eight local climate reporters.
On Wednesday evening, MTC will screen 'Moving San Francisco,' a documentary along with an expert panel discussion on the past, present, and future of transit in San Francisco and the Bay Area. To close the week on Friday, BARC in partnership with San Francisco Estuary Institute, will explore how maps can be used to better identify and plan for climate change.
The Bay Area is already experiencing observable differences in the cadence and intensity of extreme weather events, heat waves, cold snaps, droughts, and flooding. While the impacts are clear, the efforts and accomplishments of local government agencies, community-based organizations, scientists, climate reporters and other supporters moving to resolve these challenges is often obscured. SF Climate Week allows the Bay Area to exhibit multitudes of individuals and organizations working together to build collaborative solutions to address present and future challenges.
