Mind the meter: New SF default is for two hours

When using a credit card to pay, San Francisco parking meters are now defaulting to two hours, the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency said this week.

The previous default credit card charge was 25 cents, requiring users to add time to cover the length of the time they were parking for.

While the new default is two hours, drivers will still be able to reduce the length of time they are parking for.

According to the agency, before this change, meters saw a large number of 25-cent transactions, with people likely unaware it would only buy them a few minutes of parking time, putting them at risk for getting a ticket for an expired meter.
