On Monday, the public transportation industry recognizes and honors its workforce on National Transit Employee Appreciation Day.

Locally, BART is inviting members of the public to express their gratitude to the agency's hardworking employees.

"If you see a BART employee while you’re traveling around the system on Monday, give them a wave and a smile or a 'Hello!' and 'Thank you!' We also invite you to share your photos and messages of appreciation on social media tag them with #TransitEmployeeAppreciationDay. Our employees appreciate knowing you appreciate them" reads a post on the BART news site.

BART is planning employee recognition around stations, including posters highlighting some of the faces of its staff. Announcements recorded by special guests will be playing on the station speakers as well.

BART notes its overall customer satisfaction last quarter was 81%, an increase of 7% from the previous quarter. This is the first time since 2012 that the agency's customer satisfaction rating has broken the 80% mark.

Santa Rosa City Bus is inviting the public to share appreciations of its public transit team and their commitment to service. AC Transit, Golden Gate Ferry, Golden Gate Transit and Petaluma Transit also are noting the day along with many other transit agencies around the Bay Area.

And the Valley Transit Authority created this nifty poster:
