The Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC) and the Association of Bay Area Governments (ABAG) are now accepting applications for the new Community Advisory Council to help shape the future of the Bay Area.

Effective March 2025, the MTC Policy Advisory Council and the Association of Bay Area Government's (ABAG's) Regional Planning Committee have merged into the new MTC-ABAG Community Advisory Council.

A webinar for prospective applicants to the Council is being planned for June 2025. Details and the date will be posted on the Council website soon, and the BayLink will publish an updated blog post ahead of time.

Learn more about the new Council and apply by July 14 at 11:59 p.m. here: https://mtc.one/council. The first Council meeting will be held in January 2026. Council members serve four-year terms.

MTC and ABAG are committed to including the public in an open and transparent process of making housing and transportation decisions for the Bay Area.

Made up of 27 residents with diverse perspectives, the Council advises MTC and ABAG on issues related to housing and land use, transportation and the environment.

There are two kinds of seats available: county-based and at-large. County-based seats represent certain communities of interest in the region, specifically, people with disabilities, community of color, older adult, and low income.

At-large positions represent regional interests that span the multi-county Bay Area, such as labor, youth, affordable housing, business/employers, transit advocacy, and civic organizations. Depending on experience, applicants may apply for one or both types of positions.

Community Advisory Council members:

  • Influence Regional Decisions: Help shape policies on transportation, housing, and the environment.
  • Amplify Community Voices: Ensure diverse perspectives are represented in regional planning.
  • Collaborate with Leaders: Work alongside professionals and advocates committed to equity and sustainability.
