May 1 was the start of National Bike Month and this year there are more ways than ever for Bay Area residents to participate. The Bay Area Bike Challenge, previously known as the Team Bike Challenge, is designed to help people of all abilities bike to work, school, a lunch meeting or any other trip during the month of May. Whether you want to join a team of riders, compete for prizes, track your rides, try out the Ford GoBike bike share program at no cost, or participate in Bike to Work Day on May 10, National Bike Month in the Bay Area has got you covered.

Join the Bay Area Bike Challenge through the MTC Bike to Work, Love to Ride teams or create your own team. Invite coworkers to join your team and compete against teams of eight. Bike for local bragging rights or for a chance to win many great prizes, including a $1,000 local bike shop voucher, a trip to Colorado, Po Campos Bags and much more.

Download the free Ride Report app to track your bike trips automatically throughout May. No need to remember to open an app, push start or stop, or log your trips. Click the Bay Area Bike to Work banner in the Ride Report app and enable the Love to Ride platform to have all your bike trips count towards your Bay Area Bike Challenge team. By using the Ride Report app, you are helping cities, counties and MTC gather important data about where people bike.

Have you tried the Ford GoBike bike share program yet? May is a great time to try bike share since BART, in partnership with Motivate, the owner and operator of Ford GoBike, are providing riders with a free one-month trial of Ford GoBike. This gives you access to unlimited 45-minute trips, including the new ebikes in San Francisco.

Finally, Bike to Work Day is May 10! Bay Area Metro, where MTC and ABAG are headquartered, will have an energizer station which means free coffee and breakfast, Bike to Work Day 2018 bags full of lots of fun schwag and Bike to Work t-shirts for the first 75 people who arrive to the office by bike. See all the regional energizer stations and Bike to Work Day events at YouCanBikeThere.com/energizer.
