Straps to hold bikes in place are coming to all BART trains, the agency has announced.

Two bikes can be held by each strap, which helps keep them in place as the trains roll throughout the Bay Area.

The straps were initially tested in about 60 older cars throughout the BART system. Now they are being added to all the original train cars and will be part of the new fleet as well.

BART wants to see more bike riders use the system. The 2012 BART Bicycle Plan sets a goal of increasing the number of passengers who access BART by bicycle from the current 4% to 8% by 2022.

MTC has long supported bicycle use in the Bay Area.
