AAPI contributions to transportation highlighted

The American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials has produced a history of contributions to transportation made by members of the Asian American Pacific Islander community.

The Association’s site features biographies, photos and the compelling stories of pioneers who played key roles in transportation in the United States, including Norm Mineta, who passed earlier this month. The organization also has a video highlighting achievements made last year before Mineta's passing.

Among those featured on the Association's website:

  • T. Bella Dinh-Zarr, who focused on promoting safe and sustainable transportation both within the United States and across the globe.
  • Kalpana Chawla, an American astronaut who became the first woman of Indian descent to travel into space.
  • Hazel Ying Lee was the first Chinese-American woman to fly in support of U.S. military efforts.

May is Asian/Pacific American Heritage Month.
