What Will 2019 and Beyond Hold for Transportation?

Here we are on the last day of 2018 and with the New Year only hours away Forbes has taken a look at what may be in store for us in 2019 and beyond in the world of transportation.

Autonomous cars loom on the horizon, something the MTC is tracking through its Horizon initiative

And if autonomous cars were not enough, now there is talk of flying vehicles that would be able to avoid traffic down below. They would take off and land vertically, somewhat like a helicopter.

Commuter tunnels are also being discussed in a real way, not in gag form like the Golden Gate Tunnel

Electronic scooters are expected to be part of the transportation landscape in 2019 after making a dizzying debut in 2018. Areas with a large numbers of young workers, like the San Francisco Bay Area, should continue to see them for years to come.

Technology is key to many of the future transportation modes, and just how they fit in and if they begin to eclipse more standard forms of movement remains to be seen.
