As Disneyland readies to open its Star Wars-themed area next summer, it revealed this month there will be a new shuttle pod transportation system as part of the project.

While maybe not as splashy as Disney's plans, Bay Area folks have come up with interesting ideas for the future of the region as part of MTC and ABAG's Transformative Projects competition. The call for ideas comes as the agencies looks at ways to improve the region as it steams toward the middle of the century.

Among the finalists:

  • Bus rapid transit on all bridges
  • Sonoma-Marin Area Rail Transit trains to Richmond via a new Richmond-San Rafael Bridge
  • Regional bicycle superhighway network
  • Integrated regional transit fares
  • Reversible lanes on congested bridges and freeways

Those were among the top selections from a varied list of proposals.
