Throwback Thursday: Train, buses and cable cars ruled SF streets in the 1940s

Recently posted film shows just how ubiquitous public transportation was in the 1940s in San Francisco.

The fascinating (colorized) archival film features gas powered-buses, electric buses, street cars and cable cars that people are clamoring to ride.

Some familiar sights that exist today include the Powell Street cable car turnaround.

While cars are seen in the film, it's really public transit that takes center stage on downtown San Francisco streets.
