Throwback Thursday: Ferry service then and now

By Mark Prado
Golden Gate Ferry

Rummaging around in the MTC photo archive we found a 40-year-old shot of the Marin, a Golden Gate Ferry that takes people from its namesake county to San Francisco and back.

Golden Gate Ferry service is alive and well 40 years later, and is in fact thriving. Ridership has been increasing in recent years along with the growing economy, and the agency is pondering running more boats.

Golden Gate provides service to San Francisco Giants baseball games and more recently a plan has emerged to get ferries to Chase Arena, where the Golden State Warriors begin playing basketball this fall.

Ferry travel across the bay appears to have a bright future.
