Startup wants to build in your backyard to address housing shortage

A new startup says it will put a studio unit in your backyard and then split the rent proceeds as a way to develop more housing for the Bay Area.

Rent The Backyard says it will take care of everything for the homeowner. All it asks is for half of the rent for the property.

New stats laws have made it easier to build accessory dwelling units and the startup is seizing on that opportunity.

The housing crisis in the region has prompted a look at more affordable housing
