San Francisco International Airport will receive $6.4 million from the U.S. Department of Transportation to ease noise around the airport by installing noise mitigation measures at residences.

Money from the federal grant will go to insulate homes to lessen noise from aircraft flying in and out of the busy airport.

SFO -- within a few miles of several Peninsula cities -- has a whole webpage dedicated to noise abatement.

The airport already has a noise reduction program that has been utilized by several communities to gird against the noise of airplanes.
