San Francisco ranks No. 1 nationwide for pet-friendly flex space — fitting a city where dogs outnumber its kids — according to a new Coworking Cafe report.
Close behind is Oakland for pet-friendly space. Coworking spaces — locales where workers from different organizations share space and equipment — have grown in popularity in recent years.
Here are the pet, and other types of amenities, that dominate San Francisco-Oakland’s coworking market:
- Tied for No. 1 in share of pet-friendly coworking spaces. San Francisco shares the national top spot with Denver, with 26% of its coworking spaces — 18 of 69 — welcoming pets. The draw mirrors the city itself: a younger, higher-earning, later-to-parenthood population.
- Oakland was No. 2 with a 22.7% share of spaced welcoming pets.
- A Top 5 city for coworking parents, too. Nearly 16% of San Francisco's spaces (11 of 69) offer mother's rooms, nursing facilities or on-site childcare support — the fifth-highest rate nationally — making it one of the few coworking markets ready for a labradoodle or a toddler.
- Wellness perks are common but not a calling card. Lounges, fitness centers or wellness rooms appear in nearly 64% of San Francisco's spaces (44 of 69) — a touch below the 66% national average.
- EV charging is still rare. Just 1.5% of SF spaces (1 of 69) offer it, which is under the 3% national norm, even with California leading on EV.
Methodology: CoworkingCafe drew on listing data from their directory of more than 8,200 U.S. coworking spaces to find out which cities deliver the richest amenity experiences across four categories that reflect how people want to work in 2026: pet-friendly perks, sport and relaxation, childcare support and EV charging.
