Report: Bay Area rents sky high

A new report from RentCafe shows just how pricey the Bay Area is for renters.

Some factoids:

  • Overall, 18 of the 50 ZIP codes with the highest rents are in California. The San Francisco Bay Area is again in the lead in terms of the most ZIP codes with pricey rentals, claiming 12 spots in RentCafe's 2019 ranking of high-end neighborhoods in the United States.
  • San Francisco's newest-named neighborhood, The East Cut, has apartments that are on average $4,800 a month.
  • With a whopping 10.8% increase year over year, ZIP code 94025 in Menlo Park showed the most significant rent growth among the priciest ZIPs in California. The 10th costliest ZIP code in the region, Foster City's 94404 saw apartment prices swell even more, by 6.5% year over year.
