An interesting graphic shows the swarm of aircraft that flew all over the globe last month.

"In July, we tracked over 6.5 million flights — including a single day record of 230,409 on 25 July," according to the site Flightrader24.

There are just a lot of people in the air, especially during the busy summer season, as noted in a report on SF Gate.

At San Francisco International Airport, the summer travel season began in earnest on May 24, with more than 163,000 passengers traveling through SFO to kick off the Memorial Day weekend. In all, more than 16.8 million travelers are expected at SFO between Memorial Day and Labor Day, according to airport officials.

Now multiply similar numbers around the world and you can see why the skies are so busy.
