Several North Bay public transit agencies will host a drop-in community open house this week in Petaluma to discuss a proposed plan to improve service.

The event will be held Wednesday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Petaluma Arts Center, 230 Lakeville St. in Petaluma. The collaborative plan, developed by nine transit and funding agencies, aims to create a more connected, frequent, and reliable transit network for Marin and Sonoma counties.

MTC, Golden Gate Transit, Sonoma-Marin Area Rail Transit (SMART), Petaluma Transit, and Sonoma County Transit are among the agencies working on MASCOTS, the Marin-Sonoma Coordinated Transit Service Plan, which aims to grow ridership and improve effectiveness of public transit services offered in the Highway 101 corridor.

The proposed MACOTS service plan can be found here. Plans call for implementation of changes for a three-year pilot period beginning in spring 2026.

Rider Benefits of the recommendations:

  • Easier to understand network
  • Fewer lines on the map
  • More consistency in stops
  • More frequency and more options
  • Frequency improved in key corridors
  • Greater frequency improving transfer connections to all service providers
