Every April, San Francisco Climate Week brings together hundreds of organizations to host over 100 climate action and environment-focused events and learning sessions that draw thousands of attendees from across the region. A trove of regional agencies are collaborating to host a suite of events in the Bay Metro Center from April 20 through April 24.
The Bay Area's Climate Action Playbook series consists of free workshops planned by the Metropolitan Transportation Commission, the San Francisco Estuary Partnership (SFEP), the Bay Conservation & Development Commission (BCDC), Bay Area Regional Energy Network (BayREN), and the Bay Area Air District (BAAQMD).
This session series will feature:
• An expo hall of innovative climate tech solutions available now to promote seamless
electrification for residential and commercial buildings.
• Insightful discussion on the inventive ways the Bay Area is approaching funding to
address resilience through private and public partnerships.
• A panel on California's role in trailblazing the transition to natural refrigerants in
refrigeration, HVAC, and building bold circular refrigerant markets.
• A look at the regional policy landscape guiding sea level rise planning, including the
latest approaches to integrating nature-based solutions and community considerations
into shoreline adaptation.
• Transportation planners, restoration practitioners and natural resource managers
discussing shoreline habitat restoration projects that are building climate resilience for
wildlife and human communities.
The series jumps off at 12 p.m. on Monday for a 1.5-hour walking tour along the Bay through some of San Francisco's newest parks. These newly opened waterfront spaces feature elevated trail segments, adaptive infrastructure, and Water Trail access points connecting the public to our shoreline. This session offers participants the opportunity to explore the Bay Trail and Water Trail networks and to see how they are being reimagined.
In addition to the session talks, BayREN and partners will table at the MetroCenter both days, with BayREN, BCDC and the Bay Area Regional Collaborative (BARC) hosting separate mixer events each afternoon.
This conversation is timely as the Bay Area is already experiencing observable differences in the cadence and intensity of extreme weather events, heat waves, cold snaps, droughts, and flooding. The ability of local agencies to build a common vision for the Bay Area and to work across communities, the private sector, and jurisdictions to resolve these impactful issues is vital to safeguarding the Bay Area's future.
