MTC has launched an interactive dashboard summarizing data collected from the 2023-2024 Regional Transit Passenger Snapshot Survey

The survey collected demographic and trip characteristic data from over 16,500 riders on 23 of the Bay Area’s 25 federally funded transit agencies, helping to reestablish a baseline understanding of post-pandemic transit ridership in the region.

Review the Transit Snapshot Survey Dashboard.

The dashboard allows users to view key findings on transit riders’ reasons for traveling, how often they use transit, how safe they feel on transit, their access to household vehicles,  whether or not they have disabilities that limit their ability to travel, and their desired transit service improvements. Dashboard users can also select to view survey results by individual transit agencies.

Among the many survey findings, riders reported a desire for increased frequency across all modes of transit. Transit survey data helps MTC and agency partners learn more about transit riders and their travel patterns and informs the improvements underway as part of Regional Network Management

The 2023-2024 Regional Transit Passenger Snapshot Survey is a one-time, large-scale, intensive effort. Additionally, since 2013, MTC has run an ongoing Transit Passenger Survey Program to collect detailed data on transit riders’ travel patterns, supporting Title VI of the 1964 Civil Rights Act and MTC’s planning efforts. The program was paused in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic but was relaunched in 2023.
