The San Francisco Estuary Partnership will launch its second cohort of the Estuary Youth Council (EYC) this summer. This boundary-pushing initiative is designed to empower and support youth from marginalized communities in the San Francisco Estuary region.
Applications for the 2025 cohort are open until April 29, 2025, 11:59 p.m. PST. Interested individuals are encouraged to apply and join this unique opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the San Francisco Estuary and its communities.
The EYC program fosters young environmental leaders among youth ages 17-24 from Oakland, San Francisco, East Palo Alto, North Fair Oaks, Bellehaven, Redwood City, Stockton, and surrounding Delta areas. This hybrid program will run from June to December 2025, offering a small cohort of nine youth hands-on learning experiences, small group mentorship, professional development, and the chance to work on impactful capstone projects addressing critical environmental challenges faced by the San Francisco Bay and Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta.
Key highlights of the program include:
- Experiential Learning: Participants will engage with scientists, planners, and community experts through field trips and workshops, gaining a deeper connection to the Estuary and its ecosystems.
- Youth Development: The program nurtures leadership skills and empowers youth to design and implement capstone projects that tackle real-world environmental issues.
- Professional Growth: Participants will explore career opportunities, build valuable skills, and network with professionals at conferences and summits.
The Estuary Youth Council program is facilitated by the San Francisco Estuary Partnership in collaboration with a Community-Based Organization (CBO) Advisory Committee, including Mycelium Youth Network, Nuestra Casa, and Restore the Delta. These partners play a vital role in shaping, implementing, and evaluating the program while hosting youth participants at their organizations.
