The Golden Gate Bridge District has reopened parking lots at the south end of the span on weekdays. Weekend and holiday parking lot closures will remain in effect as a precautionary measure to avoid crowding during the COVID-19 pandemic and shelter-in-place public health orders.
The number of bridge visitors has declined dramatically since the shelter-in-place orders went into effect in mid-March, span officials said.
In addition to the parking restrictions, the district has placed signage around entrances to the bridge to encourage people to practice social distancing and wear a face covering if they must be out in public. Bridge security staff will continue to monitor pedestrian and bicycle traffic to ensure social distancing is maintained on the span's sidewalks.
