As the Bay Area looks to expand ferry service to improve commutes, officials in the Northwest are looking to do the same.

A "Frog Ferry" to get commuters across the Columbia River from Portland to Vancouver, Washington, is being floated to help ease traffic that builds on the Interstate Bridge, which connects the two cities.

Much like the Bay Area, ferries were replaced by bridges in the 20th Century in the area. But as commutes get worse, planners are looking to ferries to ease the strain on roadways.
