San Francisco's cable cars are again climbing halfway to the stars as of Monday and rides are free through August, according to the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency.

The historic cable cars will be taken out of service last year because of the coronavirus and buses took their place.

Now, after a 16-month absence, they are being rolled out again after cable cars on the Powell-Hyde Line were tested last month.

MTC and SFMTA are transportation partners.
