FasTrak® early adopters: time to update your toll tag

Test jpg

FasTrak® is the fast, cash-free way to pay tolls on Bay Area bridges and Express Lanes, and has been around since 2000.

Due to technology updates, drivers with FasTrak transponders manufactured before 2019 will need to replace their old tags with new ones before the end of 2026. There is no charge to upgrade to a new FasTrak tag.

FasTrak has begun to send notices to affected customers. This communication will continue into 2026. The letters confirm that no new deposit is required and that customers’ prepaid balances automatically will be linked to the new toll tag. (As always, customers are reminded that FasTrak will never request payment by text message.)

To request a new toll tag, customers can contact FasTrak customer service:

  • Online at BayAreaFasTrak.org: If you have already received a notice from FasTrak, sign in to your account and follow the prompts or use the “Chat to Ask” feature to connect with a customer service representative.
  • By Phone: Call (877) BAY-TOLL (229-8655) to speak to a customer service representative, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • In Person: Visit the walk-in center at 375 Beale Street in San Francisco, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Once you receive your new FasTrak tag, you can dispose of the old one responsibly by recycling the transponder as e-waste.

Replacement FasTrak tags are smaller than the old ones. Drivers can indicate the number of passengers in the vehicle to take advantage of carpool discounts and use Express Lanes. Learn about the new FasTrak toll tags.

FasTrak is operated by MTC’s Bay Area Toll Authority affiliate.
