Distancing ends on MUNI, celebrity voices welcome riders back

munitrain

While masks are still required, Monday saw the end of required physical distancing between Muni riders, which coincides with a broader statewide reopening campaign this week. Customers, however, must still maintain a 6-foot distance from operators.

Eliminating distancing requirements will allow Muni to implement additional service planned for August, which is contingent on increasing passenger capacity per vehicle, the agency said.

Meanwhile, local celebrities have lent their voices to “Welcome back Muni riders!” and “Thanks for riding Muni!” messages heard on buses or trains.

San Francisco Mayor London Breed, celebrity chef Martin Yan and 49ers Hall of Famer Jerry Rice are among those who can be heard.
