Caltrans Bay Area District 4 is updating the District 4 Bike Plan and is seeking comment from the public.
A public draft of the Caltrans Bay Area Bike Plan Update is now available for comment. Caltrans is accepting comments through March 31 with the final Bike Plan Update released in May.
The Caltrans Bay Area Bike Plan implements and builds on the Vision Statement and Goals in Toward an Active California, the statewide bicycle and pedestrian plan as well as Directors Policy 37, which directs all transportation projects funded or overseen by Caltrans to provide comfortable, convenient, and connected complete streets facilities.
The Plan will be used by Caltrans, as well as regional and local agency partners, to identify and prioritize high-priority needs along and across the State Highway System to create a Bay Area where people of all ages, abilities and incomes can safely, conveniently, and comfortably bike for their transportation needs.
This Bike Plan Update includes a progress report on the 2018 Bike Plan, an updated needs assessment for biking along and across the State Transportation Network in the nine‐county Bay Area, and an updated list of priority improvements to provide a more connected, lower‐stress bicycle network in the region.
MTC has used Caltrans' previous Bike Network and Pedestrian Focus Areas for its Active Transportation Network. MTC plans to incorporate Caltrans updated network into its Active Transportation Network.
