Caltrain poll shows support for sales tax

Caltrain

As Caltrain deliberates possibilities for a new revenue source, a poll by the agency shows support for a sales tax from about two-thirds of residents in the three counties it serves.

While many Bay Area transit agencies have their own revenue stream, Caltrain doesn't.

New legislation allows Caltrain to put a sales tax measure on the ballot, requiring two-thirds approval from voters to pass. Caltrain serves San Francisco, San Mateo and Santa Clara counties.

The poll identifies easing traffic, reducing air pollution and improving Caltrain frequency and capacity as reasons residents would vote for a sales tax.
