Caltrain counts continue

Caltrain has started its annual count of riders on its rails.

The count started Jan. 22, and will finish up next month. During the count, field surveyors will be aboard trains collecting data.

The count helps the agency plan for service improvements, allocate money and verify ridership estimates.

The data will also be used to determine the most popular stations and the most heavily used trains in the system.

Bicycles will also be noted as well as bike riders not able to board the train due to crowding. Riders needing assistance utilizing the passenger lifts will also be counted.

The results of previous counts are posted on the Caltrain website: www.caltrain.com/ridershipMTC has worked to get Caltrain funding for the massive electrification upgrade.
