A plan to bring more affordable housing to the Bay Area won approval this week from the ABAG Executive Board.

The board voted 21 to 9 early Friday morning to authorize ABAG President David Rabbitt to sign the CASA — the Committee to House the Bay Area — Compact.

The goal of the compact is to encourage the production of more housing for people at all income levels, preserve affordable housing that already exists and to protect current residents from displacement in rapidly changing neighborhoods.

Recent studies have shown minority communities in the Bay Area are among the groups most affected by the affordable housing crisis.
