The Great California ShakeOut is Thursday and gives people a chance to prepare for the Bay Area's next big earthquake.

At 10:20 am on 10/20, join millions of people across California practicing earthquake safety

In addition to having a conversation with your household and friends about what your plan is for an earthquake, there are resources to limit damage to your home in the next quake. ABAG has an earthquake guide and resiliency page that are worth looking at.

There’s a 72 percent probability a magnitude 6.7 or larger earthquake will strike the San Francisco Bay Area over the next 30 years, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The Bay Area just noted the magnitude-6.9 Loma Prieta quake that struck the Bay Area on Oct. 17, 1989.
